Our commitment

Our lodge and our objective

Yacuma Ecolodge is a joint ecotourism initiative of the rainforest community of Chontayacu and Ecuahotel. The ecolodge, created in 1997, provides employment opportunities through nature-based eco-tourism.

Yacuma Ecolodge is an attractive ecolodge in true nature where we practice sustainable tourism, with respect to the people, the environment and the economy of our host community. The values of the region are ours, meaning working on a surrounding nature as unspoilt and attractive as possible, working together with the community in respect with their valuable culture and heritage and offering a hospitable service.

Welcome to Yacuma Ecolodge, a beautiful place created for those who love the Amazon Jungle. We want to share with you the wonders offered by the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest and invite you to enjoy an unforgettable journey.

Sustainability and responsible tourism

“Respect the fragility of the earth. Realize that unless all are willing to help in its preservation, unique and beautiful destinations may not be here for future generations to enjoy.”

The rich biodiversity and incredible cultural beauty of Ecuador offer visitors countless opportunities for both excitement and relaxation. However, without certain care and precaution, travelling could have negative impacts on both the environment and the local cultures. Ecuahotel always bears in mind that responsible tourism is the way to preserve our resources. We are members of various environmental organizations and partnerships whose sole purpose is to conserve and protect the environment as well as the local cultures and communities of Ecuador.

The Chontayacu Indigenous Community School

One of the most important projects, developed by Ecuahotel, is the Chontayacu Indigenous Community School. The school was built with durable materials in order to make the stay of the kids comfortable and enjoyable. Previously they had to canoe on Napo River for almost 1 hour to get to the nearest school. A dangerous and tiring trip. Nowadays several kids from the community and the area nearby families are attending school. The school is provided with comfortable and useful furniture.

"The Adventure Company", a tour operator from England, also contributed positively to the construction of the school. Ecuahotel pays for the school teacher and provides regular medical assistance for the kids and adults of the community. In addition a scholarship was established for the best student who, after finishing the basic school, will get a constant economical assistance in order to continue his/her studies at a high school in the city of Tena. Before this, children in the jungle never had such an opportunity.
