Getting there Print

The Ecuador Amazon Rainforest Yacuma Reserve and the Ecolodge are located in the Napo River area in the Ecuadorian Amazon Jungle Rainforest. The Yacuma Protected Rainforest Reserve spans over 300 hectares (3,000,000 square meters) (750 acres) of primary tropical rainforest. With its richness in species and diverse ecosystems, Yacuma Forest Reserve is an extraordinary place for ecotourists and visitors who enjoy and respect nature.

With its 300 hectares (750 acres) of primary Amazon Jungle, Yacuma Protected Rainforest Reserve is located in the upper basin of the Amazon Jungle on the west shores of the Chontayacu River which sheds its water into the great Napo River, one of the biggest affluents of the Amazon River. Over 340 bird species live in the vicinity of Yacuma Reserve. A great number of insects, reptiles, mammals and a fantastic number of plants and tree species are recorded on this beautiful area. In March 2004 this extraordinary area was declared a Protected Rainforest Reserve by the Environment Ministry of Ecuador (Registro Forestal No. 15-008).

Yacuma Ecolodge is only accessible by boat from San Pedro village or Santa Rosa village. Visitors will drive from Quito, following the beautiful route that goes through Papallacta and Baeza, until arriving to the city of Tena. This drive lasts about 4 hours and is plenty of exhilarating and very scenic landscape ranging from the highlands of the spectacular Andes to the low lands of the upper basin of the Great Amazon River. From Tena the journey continues for about 2 hours and 30 minutes more until San Pedro or Santa Rosa Village from where our dug-out canoes will take you (travel time 30-45 minutes) to Yacuma Ecolodge located in a magnificent jungle spot.

Visitors can also fly from Quito to the city of Tena every week on Monday or Friday, when available. If you arrive to Tena by plane we will pick you up at the airport and take you to San Pedro or Santa Rosa Village and then by canoe to Yacuma Ecolodge.

In the summer period (from December to March) when the water level on the main river is low and the canoes can not cross the sand banks of the river, we will probably walk through the rainforest for about 1-2 hours enjoying great scenery and flora.

Our location

Take the road Quito – Tena for about 200km. In Tena take the direction “Puyo” until the “Puerto Napo”, this is more or less 8km. Cross the bridge over the river Napo and immediately when crossed take the road at your left hand side. You can also see a sign at this crossing “Yacuma Ecolodge 54km”. After more or less 50km in between Puerto Napo and Santa Rosa you will have another sign indicating “Yacuma Ecolodge – Santa Rosa 2km”.
