“I had a great stay in Yacuma Ecolodge. The fauna and flora, sounds, stars, … of the Ecuadorian Rainforest are just spectacular. The indigenous staff is so proud to show you their forest and are willing to explain everything.”

Day 1

We’ll leave Quito early in the morning and travel in the direction of Baeza by public bus (or private transport). Our drive will take you first to the Guacamayos Range from where we can have a great view of the vast upper basin of the mysterious jungle of the Amazonas River.
We will continue east towards the city of Tena from where we transport you to the small Indigenous village of Santa Rosa or San Pedro.
A 30 minutes navigation downstream along the Napo River by canoe will take us to the Yacuma Ecolodge where we arrive early in the afternoon and where you will be welcomed by a typical cold drink and will have time to settle in the lodge’s typical Kichwa bungalows for two people. In the evening we enjoy our dinner.

Day 2

After breakfast we will start a 4-5 hour hike which will take us to our camp on the shores of Bueno Yacu River. In this camp visitors will be accommodated in tents or hammocks as desired. Along the way an indigenous guide will show us the many species of plants and describe their medicinal purposes to us.

With a little luck we will see monkeys and birds such as oropendolas and parrots. In the afternoon, you will have the chance to rest, explore the magical surroundings, enjoy a refreshing swim or go fishing in the clear pristine waters of Bueno Yacu River.

Day 3

After a leisurely morning we will trek back to Yacuma lodge.
After lunch we’ll visit the Kichwa indigenous community, where you will have the opportunity to learn about local customs and the way of life of the native people of the jungle. Later in the afternoon, you may like to enjoy a refreshing swim in the river or try your hand at fishing. Then we return to the lodge late in the afternoon, have time to rest before dinner.

Day 4

In the morning, we’ll travel further along the Napo River towards the mouth of Huambuno River.
We navigate upstream in this narrow river surrounded by a beautiful green lush rain forest until we reach a farmer area where we disembark and then walk for about 30 minutes to a lagoon where we can observe caimans and hoatzins (an interesting jungle bird).

Return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious lunch and then a short rest. Later in the afternoon, you will have the rare opportunity to try panning for gold on the shores of Napo River. We’ll also take you to a perfect spot for bathing beside one of the sandy shores of the Napo or Chontayacu Rivers. We’ll return to the lodge late in the afternoon and after dinner we invite you to have a drink at our informal social evening.

Day 5
After breakfast we say goodbye to our Indian friends and then we’ll begin our return journey along the Napo River from where we take our transportation to Quito.
